2025 BIIFT Rules, Regulations & Fishing Area

Thank you for entering the new expanded Block Island Inshore Fishing Tournament (BIIFT).  Now with nine species in an expanded geographic area covering waters around the mainland from the Jamestown and Newport Bridges south to about fifteen miles off the coast of Block Island in waters off Rhode Island (see tournament map, now includes southern coastal shore from Westerly, Newport to the Sakonnet River and much of the Cox Ledge area).  Please see the satellite map below.

Species now include bonito, false albacore, bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna and mahi in addition to fluke, black sea bass, bluefish and striped bass.

 

We still have the popular youth and adult shore divisions; a boat youth division for black sea bass, fluke, striped bass and bluefish; and a combined adult/youth division for bluefin tuna, yellow fin tuna, bonito, false albacore and mahi.

The BIIFT is open to all who desire to enter. The Tournament director retains the right to limit the number of entrants and reserves the right to cancel the event for any reason.

A saltwater fishing license is required to fish Rhode Island Waters and a Federal Highly Migratory Species license to fish for tuna.  Participants must follow all Rhode Island State and Federal regulations in effect at the time of the Tournament.

 

  • All participants are required to register online on the Tournament website and submit the entry fee prior to the start of the Tournament. 

  • Fishing starts at 5:30am, Saturday, June 26th and ends at 12pm, Sunday, June 27th.

  • Participants agree that the Block Island Inshore Fishing Tournament has the right to use their image and all photos taken during the Tournament in Tournament publicity and promotional material.

  • Prior the tournament participants will need to download the GotOne app.  Directions for tournament access on the app will be provided before the tournament.

  • This is a catch and release, longest length tournament. Winners will be determined by length of the qualifying fish measure on the deck of a vessel or the shore, up against the official Tournament ruler that will be distributed in Participant/Captain’s bags provided by the Tournament director.Tournament rulers will be provided at the your pick up location (indicated on your registration application).

  • Fish Pictures; the fish must be place on the provided ruler with the nose, tail visible, and length measurement.*Overall Length will be used for striped bass, fluke, bluefish, and black sea bass**Curved Fork Length will be used for YFT, BFT, Mahi, false albacore, bonito, mahi.

  • All qualifying fish MUST be uploaded to the GotOne app. within the tournament start and end times for prize eligibility.


 

SAFETY FIRST!

Fish at your own risk. Each Angler is responsible for the well-being of themselves and those they fish with. The BIIFT assumes no responsibility for the conduct or safety of any boats or entrants. All participants enter the tournament at their own risk.

IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS/PARTY AFTER

 

Time limits- lines in at sunrise Saturday, July 26 (5:30) and concludes with all entries sent in at 12 noon EST on Sunday, July 27.

Awards ceremony, with lunch will be at the Party After, Sunday, July 27, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  at Capt. Nicks Rock & Roll Bar, 34 Ocean Avenue, Block Island.

You need not be in attendance to win the Tournament we will notify you by email and plan to mail gift cards to winners not in attendance at the Party After.  However, we will be giving away over thirty, $100 gift cards from participating cosponsor tackle shops.  You must attend the party after to win these door prizes.


Any cheating in any way will not be tolerated.  If your fish looks like it was caught by any means other than rod and reel, or if it is undersized you will be disqualified.

The entry fee is nontransferable and nonrefundable.

All protests must be submitted verbally and in writing immediately after the Tournament . The Tournament Director will hear all protests.  The decisions of the Tournament Director are final.

The tournament boundry extends from the Sakonnet river to the Westerly Beaches and includes both sides of the Newport and Jamestown Bridges.  Offshore area is approximatley 15 miles south of Block Island and includes much of Cox's Ledge.
